Planning Acoustic Guitar Recording

Good Afternoon (or whenever you're reading this)!

In this post, I am going to plan my acoustic guitar recording for my track - a reworking of "Eliza".

Although most of Portishead's songs don't feature an acoustic guitar, and definitely not the 'traditional' recording, I wanted to include one in my song to act as a backbone of the track, much more underlying. I will admit, though, I'm not 100% confident that it will fit well into the genre, and if not, I will reflect on that and not include it, but at least it will be a good opportunity to brush up on my recording skills! Maybe I will add some crazy effects to it in post-production to make it sound more fitting. Having an acoustic guitar in this song is really a shot in the dark, but who knows - it might work really well.

Since there aren't really any acoustic guitar recordings to go off production-wise (in the style of Portishead), I am going to record my acoustic in a more traditional sense with three microphones - a pair of Behringer C2's and a Behringer XM8500. The pair of condenser microphones are going to be used to capture the detail of the guitar fingering as a spaced pair. The dynamic microphone is going to be used as a room mic to capture the space of the guitar, giving it some reverb. Below is a diagram of how the setup is going to be laid out.

Yeah... I dont really have too much to say about this as it's going to be a very minor (ha) part of my track, if at all.

See you in the next one!

-D.
