Introduction to My Blog

 Hello!

For my first post on this blog, I just wanted to be transparent about its aims; this blog is going to be a place to store my ideas, thoughts and processes during the reworking of an original song, yet to be decided by me. The reworking must push the original track into a new context - mostly keeping its structure and lyrics, whilst changing almost everything else, giving me pure creative freedom into whatever genre I please!

I am going to be placing everything within the context of the song in this blog, reviewing my ideas and processes, and researching things in relation to the song and the style of genre that I will be aiming for. The blog has some rules I must acquire to, however, and I will state them below:

1. I must state the musical context for my production through the discussion and analysis of at least one reference track. This analysis should also underpin the technical and creative workflow I undertake for my production.

2. I must describe the planning of any recording sessions I'm undertaking

3. I must describe the recording techniques from a technical standpoint (with referencing) and an evaluation of why specific approaches were chosen over others.

4. I must include a track list detailing the signal flow for each recording i.e. microphone, pre-amp, outboard (if any), desk channel, and avid channel

5. I must include photos of the recording sessions and any specific microphone setups used

6. The diary must analyse and justify any post-recording audio treatment and mix decisions, including screenshots where necessary

7. The diary must evaluate the success of my production against the musical context I have outlined

My next post should be about determining the original song I choose to rework, as well as a reference track or two, and an aesthetic goal to aim for, although we will see how that evolves during the reworking of the track.

See you soon!

-D.
